The Name Of Things: Finding Our Lost Nature Words

Some words slip away so quietly that nobody notices they've gone.

Aoife has been indoors all summer, and when she finally steps outside, the world feels bigger and stranger than she remembered. Some parts of it even seem to have lost their names...

There's a shape in her pocket she can't quite see, a book whose pages are fading, and a door across the street she hasn't knocked on in a long time.

Join Aoife as she follows the birdsong, the whispering willow and the river's winding path to bring the lost words back.

With live harp, songs in English and Irish, and a storyteller who has been collecting forgotten things for a very, very long time, The Name of Things is a playful, tender adventure about paying attention, finding your voice and finding your way back.

Anann’s Arch and Artitude invite you to join us for a drop-in creative session before the show to make an animal mask that represents the creatures we will meet and find on our journey together. You can then wear your mask during the performance, and help us call our nature words back to life.

Masks will be made using natural, sustainable and foraged materials, all provided by Artitude.

Inspired by The Lost Words and Spell Songs.

*Note for parents/carers: The mask-making workshop is an optional drop-in session and the length of time needed to make a mask will vary depending on age, dexterity and level of detail each child would like to achieve. We recommend allowing at least 20 minutes per child to make a mask. The workshop will close 15 minutes before the performance start time. All materials are provided.

Two FREE performances available to choose from - Morning performance and Afternoon performance - available to book on The Playhouse website here.
